Trump may meet Putin soon
WASHINGTON/MOSCOW – August 6

A White House official said that former President Donald Trump might meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin as early as next week.

The U.S. is still planning to put more pressure on Russia to stop the war in Ukraine. This includes new sanctions, which might even target China if it’s helping Russia.

If the meeting happens, it would be the first time a U.S. and Russian president have met face-to-face since President Joe Biden met Putin in Geneva back in June 2021. That meeting happened just months before Russia started its full invasion of Ukraine—the biggest war in Europe since World War II.

A Kremlin official said the talks were “useful and constructive.”
>If Russia doesn’t agree, Trump plans to put new sanctions in place.
>He’s getting more frustrated with Putin because there’s been little progress toward peaceTrump has also warned that he might put high tariffs on countries buying Russian goods, like oil.
>On Wednesday, he said he might announce more tariffs on China, just like the 25% tariffs he already set on India for buying Russian oil.
These diplomatic moves are happening just two days before Trump’s deadline for Russia to agree to peace in Ukraine.
