An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 hit Queensland in eastern Australia.
People in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast said they felt the shaking.
So far, there are no reports of serious damage.
The quake happened at 9:49 a.m. on Saturday.
Its center was near the small town of Goomeri in the Gympie Region.
That is about 90 km northwest of the Sunshine Coast and 150 km from Brisbane.
Geoscience Australia said the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.6 and a depth of 10 km, which makes it very shallow.
The U.S. Geological Survey gave a lower reading of 4.9.
Energy company Energex said crews were checking power outages near the epicenter.
Around 11,000 customers lost power in areas between Fraser Coast, Burrum Heads, and Murgon.

from Sunshine Coast, said: “The whole house shook and the windows rattled. It didn’t last long, but long enough to leave us shocked.”
Nicky Boaden, from Tamaree, said their home shook with a strong vibration. “The tremor made our ceiling fans sway and the dishes rattle in the cupboards,” they said.
They added: “The bushland behind our home went completely silent. Not a single bird call could be heard, which is unusual for our area. The birds have returned now, but in that moment it was eerily still.”
[20:27, 15/08/2025] alizaib: In Teneriffe, Leighton Cochran said he felt about 30 seconds of clear movement in a five-storey building. “The plants and chairs were swaying. It was smooth and continuous, not like the usual construction vibrations,” he said.
In Caboolture, Gerard Garthe said: “The quake shook our house. I was outside reading and could hear the house shaking. It lasted around 15 to 20 seconds.”
In Bundaberg, Calvin Rayer said he felt a shockwave. “It went through my house and shook my bed, like someone was pushing it back and forth,” he said.
He added that his mother, who was in a raised house, felt it swaying strongly.
